ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. – The Washburn women's tennis team bested No. 10 nationally ranked Flagler College, 4-3, on Wednesday at the Flagler Tennis Center. This win marks the first matchup and first victory against a ranked opponent this season.
 
Washburn had the early advantage as they earned the doubles point to begin the match. The duo of 
Kinsey Fields and 
Maja Jung took a 6-4 victory from the No. 2 spot, then 
Logan Morrissey and 
Svea Crohn followed with a 6-3 win from the top of the lineup to secure the doubles point.
 
After Crohn, 
Marta Torres and Morrissey lost their singles matches from the No. 1, 2 and 4 spots respectively, the Ichabods worked relentlessly to earn those points back. From the bottom of the lineup, 
Cadence Lynn went to work to take a 6-4, 6-3 victory to earn Washburn its first singles point. At the No. 5 spot, Jung stood her ground through a three-set match, winning it by scores of 6-1, 3-6 and 6-3. With the winning point on the line, it came down to 
Maria Soler Valverde playing at the No. 3 spot. Soler Valverde won the first set by a score of 6-4 before falling in the second set, 7-5, but then fought her way through the deciding third and won it 6-4, clinching Washburn's 4-3 victory over No. 10 Flagler.
 
The Ichabods end their road trip with a matchup against Valdosta State on Thursday in Valdosta, Ga. Start time is set for 1 p.m. at VSU Tennis Complex.
