VALDOSTA, Ga. – The Washburn women's tennis team defeated Valdosta State, 4-1, on Thursday as they played to the clinching point.
After the duo of
Cadence Lynn and
Marta Torres fell from the No. 3 doubles spot, the other doubles duos went to work to win the doubles point. From the second spot in the lineup,
Maja Jung and
Kinsey Fields defeated their opponents by a score of 6-3. Then, No. 1 duo
Svea Crohn and
Logan Morrissey won their match by 6-4 to ensure the doubles point for the Ichabods.
Jung started off singles action with a win from the fifth spot by 6-3 and 6-2. Lynn followed that with a 6-2, 6-1 victory from the No. 6 spot. Morrissey battled but ultimately fell by scores of 4-6 and 4-6 from the fourth spot. Torres then won the clinching point from the No. 2 spot by scores of 2-6, 7-5 and 6-0 to ensure the Ichabods a 4-1 victory over Valdosta State.
Washburn improves to a 6-0 record this season as Valdosta State falls to 1-4.
The Ichabods return home for an exhibition match against Cowley County Community College on March 17 at 1 p.m. at the Washburn Tennis Complex.
