KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The Washburn women's tennis team blanked Rockhurst, 7-0, on Saturday afternoon at Plaza Tennis Center.
The Ichabods swept the Hawks in doubles action. The duo of
Svea Crohn and
Maria Soler Valverde started off with a 6-0 sweep from the third court.
Marta Torres and
Logan Morrissey then defeated their opponent, 6-2, from the top of the lineup. No. 2 court duo
Maja Jung and
Kinsey Fields completed the doubles sweep with a 6-3 victory.
Washburn also dominated singles action.
Cadence Lynn won the first singles point with a dominant 6-0, 6-0 victory at the bottom of the lineup. Jung then followed with a 6-2, 6-0 win from the fifth court. Soler Valverde clinched the Ichabods' victory with a 6-1, 6-0 win at the No. 3 spot. Playing at the top of the lineup, Torres defeated her opponent by scores of 6-1 and 6-2. Crohn took a 6-4, 6-0 victory at the No. 2 spot. Morrissey battled through at the fourth spot for a 7-6 (7-3), 6-1 victory to ensure Washburn's 7-0 sweep of Rockhurst.
The Ichabods improve to a 7-0 record while the Hawks fall to an even 2-2 record this season.
Washburn returns home to host Newman University on March 27 in the first conference match of the season. The match is set for 1 p.m. at the Washburn Tennis Complex.
