Ichabods win 6th straight while calming the Storm

BETHANY, Okla. – The Washburn Ichabods won their sixth-straight game with a 7-3 win at Southern Nazarene playing only one game as the second scheduled game with Oklahoma Christian was canceled earlier in the day. The Ichabods will open MIAA this weekend starting at Pittsburg State on Sunday.
 
The Ichabods (14-3) jumped on the board first when Marrit Mead singled up the middle and then after moving to second on a sac bunt by Hadley Kerschen and to third on a wild pitch she scored on a Jaycee Ginter RBI double. The Ichabods added another run on an RBI single by Kamryn Garvie scoring Maddie Stipsits who reached base after being hit by a pitch. The Storm came back with two runs of their own in the bottom of the first tying the score at 2-2.
 
The Ichabods went back in front in the top of the fourth inning when Ashton Friend scored Bri Francis on a sac fly after Francis led off the inning with a double and moved to third on Garvie's single. But Southern Nazarene came back to tie the score with a single run in the bottom of the inning.
 
Washburn broke the game open with four runs in the fifth inning after leading the bases with singles by Kerschen, Ginter and Stipsits, Autymn Schreiner doubled down the left field line scoring two runs. A second sac fly by Friend scored Stipsits and Schreiner would come around to score on a single by Brianna Fuchs.
 
Ginter entered the game in the second inning and allowed four hits and one earned run in 5 2/3 innings of pitching striking out eight improving to 6-1 in the circle.
 
Garvie finished with three hits and Schreiner drove in two to lead the Washburn offense.
