KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The No. 21-ranked Washburn men's tennis team returns home with a 6-1 victory over the Rockhurst Hawks on Saturday afternoon at Plaza Tennis Center.
The Ichabods dominated doubles action, starting off win a 6-1 win by
Raul-Alin Dicu and
Daniel Bird at the No. 3 spot. The duo of
Paul Haase and
Miquel Perez then defeated their opponents, 6-3, from the second spot. From the top of the lineup,
Bradley Eidenmueller and
Sebastian Pjontek closed out doubles action with a 6-3 victory.
To start off singles action, Haase took a 6-1, 6-0 victory from second court to win Washburn's first singles point. Eidenmueller followed with a 6-2, 6-3 win from the fourth spot in the lineup. Pjontek clinched the Ichabods victory with a 6-2, 7-6 (7-5) win from the No. 3 spot. After Perez fell from the top spot,
Miller Zeiders defeated his opponent by scores of 6-4 and 6-4 from the bottom of the lineup.
Marc Roura Casi then closed out the match with a 6-3, 6-3 win from the fifth spot to ensure the 6-1 Washburn victory over Rockhurst.
The Ichabods improved to a 7-2 record while the Hawks fall to 3-2 this season.
Washburn returns home to host conference opponent Newman on March 27 in the first conference matchup of the season. Start time is set for 1 p.m. at Washburn Tennis Complex.
