TOPEKA, Kan. – The No. 19 ranked women's tennis team swept the Newman Jets, 7-0, on Saturday afternoon at the Washburn Tennis Complex.
The Ichabods won the first point of the match by sweeping doubles action. The duo of
Svea Crohn and
Maria Soler Valverde took a 6-1 victory from the third court. The No. 1 doubles pair
Marta Torres and
Logan Morrissey won their match by a score of 6-4.
Maja Jung and
Kinsey Fields closed out doubles action with a resilient 7-6 (7-4) win from the second spot.
In singles action, Soler Valverde won the first point from the No. 3 spot, defeating her opponent by scores of 6-3, 6-0. Torres followed with a 6-3, 6-0 from the top of the lineup, before Crohn clinched the Ichabod win from the second court by scores of 7-6 (7-4), 6-2. Jung defeated her opponent by 6-4, 6-2 from the fifth spot. Morrissey then won her match from the No. 4 spot with scores of 6-3, 6-2.
Cadence Lynn finished the match with a 6-1, 6-0 win from the bottom of the lineup, clinching Washburn's 7-0 sweep over Newman.
The Ichabods improve to an 8-0 record, while the Jets fall to 6-4 this season.
Washburn will host another conference matchup against Emporia State on Sunday. The match is set for 11 a.m. at the Washburn Tennis Complex.
