TOPEKA, Kan. – The No. 19 nationally-ranked Washburn women's tennis team ended the two-match weekend with a 7-0 sweep over Emporia State on Sunday at Washburn Tennis Complex.
 
The Ichabods opened the match by sweeping the doubles point for an early advantage. The duo of 
Svea Crohn and 
Maria Soler Valverde swept their opponents, 6-0, from the third spot. From the top of the lineup, 
Marta Torres and 
Logan Morrissey then blanked their opponents, 6-0, to clinch the doubles point. The Hornets fought back at the No. 2 spot, but the duo of 
Kinsey Fields and 
Maja Jung came out victorious with a 7-5 win to ensure the doubles point sweep for the Ichabods.
 
In singles action, Washburn swept Emporia State in order. Torres started things off with a 6-0, 6-1 victory from the top of the lineup, before Crohn followed with a 6-4, 7-5 victory from the second spot. Soler Valverde clinched the Washburn win as she defeated her opponent by scores of 6-1, 6-3 from the third spot in the lineup. Jung won her match with scores of 6-0, 6-1 from the No. 4 spot. Fields then defeated her opponent with a 6-1, 6-2 victory from the fifth court. Battling at the bottom of the lineup, 
Sydnee Foster came out victorious by scores of 6-1, 3-6, and 1-0 (12-10) to lead Washburn to a 7-0 sweep over Emporia State.
 
The Ichabods improve to a perfect 9-0 record, while the Hornets falls to 5-2 this season.
 
Washburn will travel to Oklahoma for a two-match weekend, starting by facing No. 5 Central Oklahoma on April 2 at 2 p.m. in Edmond, Okla. The team then will travel to Tahlequah, Okla., to face Northeastern State on April 3 at 1 p.m.
