EDMOND, Okla. – The No. 19 ranked women's tennis team fell to the No. 5 ranked Central Oklahoma Bronchos, 6-1, on Friday afternoon at Broncho Courts.
To begin the match, the Bronchos took the doubles point by winning two of the three doubles matches. The Ichabods' lone win in doubles action was a 6-3 victory by the duo of Marta Torres and Logan Morrissey from the top of the lineup. Maria Soler Valverde earned Washburn's lone point as she defeated her opponent at the No. 3 spot by scores of 4-6, 6-4, 10-7. The Ichabods were not able to catch up to the Bronchos strong performance, as Central Oklahoma took the 6-1 victory.
The loss was Washburn's first of the season, making their record 9-1 (2-1 MIAA). Central Oklahoma improved to 10-1 (3-0 MIAA).
The Ichabods head to Tahlequah, Okla., to go head-to-head with Northeastern State on Saturday at 1 p.m.
