ORLANDO, Fla. – The Washburn men's tennis team defeated Northwood, 6-1, on Tuesday afternoon at the USTA National Campus.
The Ichabods swept the doubles point to take an early advantage. The duo of
Bradley Eidenmueller and
Sebastian Pjontek defeated their opponents with a score of 7-5 from the top of the lineup.
Paul Haase and
Miquel Perez then took a 6-3 victory from the second spot in the lineup to clinch the doubles point.
Daniel Bird and
Raul-Alin Dicu swept their opponent, 6-0, to ensure the doubles sweep for the Ichabods.
Miller Zeiders took the first singles point for Washburn from the bottom of the lineup with a perfect 6-0 sweep in both sets. Eidenmueller won the next point with a 6-3 and 6-0 victory in the fourth court. Bird followed with another victory from the No. 5 spot with scores of 6-1 and 7-5. Haase won his match with scores of 6-4 and 6-2 from the No. 2 spot. Pjontek defeated his opponent after a long battle by scores of 6-3, 4-6, and 1-0 (7-0) from the third spot in the lineup. A tough matchup at the top of the lineup, Dicu fell to his Northwood opponent, but the Ichabods took the 6-1 victory over the Timberwolves.
Washburn improves to 5-1 and Northwood falls to 0-7 this season.
The Ichabods continue their road trip, facing off with No. 9 Flagler College on Wednesday in St. Augustine, Fla. The match is set for 2 p.m. at the Flagler Tennis Center.
