No. 18 women’s tennis routs Nebraska-Kearney

KEARNEY, Neb. – The No. 18 ranked Washburn women's tennis team defeated Nebraska-Kearney, 6-1, on Saturday afternoon to improve to a 5-1 MIAA record.
 
The Ichabods swept doubles action to take the doubles point in dominating fashion. Svea Crohn and Maria Soler Valverde started action off on a high note as they swept their opponents, 6-0, at the No. 3 spot. From the top of the doubles lineup, Marta Torres and Logan Morrissey followed with a 6-2 victory, before Maja Jung and Kinsey Fields closed doubles action out with a 6-4 win from the second court to ensure the sweep.
 
In singles action, Jung won the Ichabods the first point with a 6-1, 6-0 victory from the No. 5 spot. Soler Valverde then defeated her opponent at the third spot by scores of 6-0, 6-1. Clinching the Washburn win, Morrissey took a 7-6 (6-0), 6-1 win from the No. 4 spot. At the top of the lineup, Torres defeated her opponent by set scores of 6-4, 6-3. Cadence Lynn then won the Ichabods' final point as she took a 6-3, 7-5 victory from the sixth spot. Crohn lost at the second spot, but the Ichabods still came out victorious in the 6-1 win over Nebraska-Kearney.
 
Washburn improves to a 13-1 record overall with a 5-1 record in MIAA play, while Nebraska-Kearney falls to 4-11 overall and 1-4 conference record.
 
The Ichabods close out their final road trip as they face Fort Hays State in Hays, Kan., on Sunday at 1:30 p.m.
