Ichabods fall in doubleheader sweep at Rogers State

CLAREMORE, Okla. – The Washburn Ichabod softball team wrapped up the regular season road portion of the schedule falling in a pair of games to Rogers State falling 4-1 and 7-4. The Ichabods will now finish off the regular season hosting Central Missouri on Monday at 2 p.m. at Gahnstrom Field. The Ichabods have clinched an MIAA Postseason Tournament berth with seedings to be announced following the games with the Jennies on Monday.
 
Game 1 – RSU 4, WU 1
The Hillcats opened the scoring in the bottom of the third inning on back to back home runs jumpoing out to a 2-0 lead. 

The Ichabods got on the board in the fifth inning on a solo home run by Ashton Friend. The Hillcats added solo runs in the fifth and sixth taking up a 4-1 lead.

Washburn was held to the lone hit by Friend as she hit her ninth home run of the season.
Ashlie Thissen struck out three allowing seven hits in six innings of work.
 
Game 2 – RSU 7, WU 4
Washburn (26-15, 12-12 MIAA) scored the first two runs of the game in its first at bat with Marrit Mead singling to start the frame and would come around and score on Bri Francis' third home run of the season.

The Hillcats (30-13, 18-8 MIAA) hit two home runs in the second inning to go up 3-2 over the Ichabods but the Ichabods came back to tie the score in the third after Mead connected on her seventh home run of the season.

Rogers State added an unearned run in the third and after the Ichabods tied the score in the fifth inning an a Hadley Kerschen single to left scoring Maddie Stipsits, but again the Hillcats came back with three of their own in the fifth inning to take the 7-4 win as the Ichabods went down in order in the sixth and seventh.

Raegen Hamm started the game and struck out two in 2 1/3 innings while Jaycee Ginter struck out four in 2 2/3 innings.

Mead finished with three of Washburn five hits in the night cap.
