EDMOND, Okla. – The No. 17 ranked Washburn women's tennis team fell to Central Oklahoma, 4-0, in the MIAA Championship on Saturday afternoon.
The Ichabods lost the doubles point as only the No. 3 duo of
Svea Crohn and
Maria Soler Valverde took a 6-3 victory. Washburn was not able to get a point in singles action, going down in the order of No. 2, 1 and 3. Crohn lost to the Bronchos' No. 11 ranked singles player by set scores of 6-0, 6-1 at the second spot. Then,
Marta Torres fell to Central Oklahoma's No. 7 ranked player by 6-4, 6-1 at the top of the lineup. Soler Valverde was defeated by No. 37 singles player Isabella Dunlap of the Bronchos by set scores of 6-4, 6-1 as Washburn was swept by Central Oklahoma, 4-0 in the MIAA Championship match.
Washburn is currently in contention for a NCAA regional spot as they are ranked No. 3 in the Central Region. A press release will be released announcing the selections on Monday at 7:30 p.m. on NCAA.com.
