EMPORIA, Kan. – Washburn soccer team suffers their first loss of the season. The Ichabods lose 2-1 to No. 6 Emporia State.
Another slow start for the Ichabods allowing a goal just nine minutes into the game. Hornets' Hannah Woolery shot it just above the fingertips of Ichabod goalkeeper
Raegan Wells off a free kick. Emporia State out shot Washburn eight to three in the first half.
Washburn would respond nine minutes later with a goal of their own. Defender
Jaedyn Johnson scored on a long shot to tie the game up at one apiece. After Johnson's goal, both keepers and defenders held strong, not allowing another goal going into the second half.
The second half has been the best for the Ichabods however it was not against a tough opponent in Emporia State. The Hornets held Washburn to just one shot all half. The Hornets themselves shot nine times with three being on goal. The Hornets break came halfway through the second half. Woolery on her second shot on goal (8 shots total) scores assisted by Ashlyn Lakin's corner kick.
Ichabods offense could not get it going in the second half. Their lone shot came late in the game by
Khloe Schuckman in a one-on-one with the hornets' keeper Tori Bailey. Bailey came in the second half and made the only save needed.
Washburn heads back home to host another tough MIAA opponent in Fort Hays on September 24. The kick-off is set for 6 p.m.
