TOPEKA, Kan. – The Ichabods scored early but left with the 1-1 draw against the Fort Hays Tigers. Washburn sits at 4-1-1 while the Tigers get their third tie of the season and a record of 3-1-3. It is just the second time in the series the two teams have tied.
Washburn controlled the game at the start as they held possession away from Fort Hays. It didn't take long for Washburn to seize the opportunity into a goal three minutes into the game. It is the quickest goal scored all season.
Tera Lynch capitalize on a mistake by a Tigers' defender and scored her fourth goal of the season.
The Ichabods held the 1-0 lead for 20 minutes before Fort Hays' forward Hannah Mares registered her first goal of the season. Both defenses held up the rest of the 85 minutes.
In the second half, the offenses didn't score but shot the ball twice as much in the second half as they did in the first half. Tigers ended the contest with 14 shots compared to the Ichabods 12 shots. As time was running under 10 seconds, Washburn got off one more corner kick that just went over the net.
In overtime, the game remained a back-and-forth contest. The Ichabods shot twice, and the Tigers got three shots off. Unfortunately, none were able to reach the back of the net.
The goalkeepers saw early struggles and had issues handling the ball. At the end of the day, both tightened up and kept the other team out of the goal in the second half and overtime.
Raegan Wells tallied 4 saves and Deonna Wellbrook saved 6 shots.
Washburn will remain at home for Sunday's matchup against a familiar opponent in Nebraska-Kearney. The Ichabods defeated the Lopers 2-0 on September 17
th. The kick-off is set for 1 p.m.
