TOPEKA, Kan. – Washburn wins their first conference game of the season in dominating fashion. The Ichabods defeated the Lopers for the second time this season 6-1. All six goals were scored by a different player.
Washburn for the first 21 minutes of the match didn't take a shot. In those same 21 minutes, the Lopers came out firing with four shots, three of them on-goal. It wasn't until after 30 minutes had gone by that the Ichabods hit their stride.
At the 31
st minute,
Riley Wells took the ball up the right sideline and crossed it directly in front on the Lopers net for
Olivia Harriger to get her first goal of the season. The next goal came five minutes later as
Emily Munyer place a ball in front of
Sydney Rosemann who was behind the defense. Washburn took the 3-0 lead going to the half as
Jaedyn Johnson, again assisted by Munyer, shot the ball off the side of her right foot in the bottom right corner.
Ichabods' goalkeeper,
Raegan Wells made five saves in the half which includes the three huge saves in the first 20 minutes. Nebraska-Kearney's keeper, Rainna Daharsh, in her second start of the year faced 9 on-goal shots.
In the second half, Washburn would score three more goals by three different players. Schuckman took back the team lead in goals with her fifth, 10 minutes into the half. Washburn extended their lead off the head of
Mattie Miano from an
Emily Stone corner kick. It is Miano's first goal of her career. The final Washburn goal was also a first in
Ella McManus' young career
Nebraska-Kearney has struggled to score this season. However, in their last game against Emporia State, the Lopers scored their second goal of the season and didn't leave Sunday's game without one either. Perla Navarro got one past keeper,
Graycn Evans in her first appearance of the season.
The Ichabods walk away with a 5-1-1 record and 1-0 in the conference. Next week, conference play continues as the Ichabods travel to Northwest Missouri on Friday, October 1 at 1 p.m.
