TEMPE, Ariz. – The Washburn men's tennis team ranked at No. 21 on the Division II Men's ITA Preseason Coaches' Poll. The Ichabods play two exhibition matches against Nebraska-Omaha on Saturday, January 29, in Omaha, Neb. Their first match of 2022 his at home against Rockhurst on Saturday, Feb. 5.
Several Washburn players appear in the national and regional rankings which were released on December 1.
Kim Niethammer sits ranked at No. 49 nationally and No. 7 in the Central Region. Niethammer is join by teammates
Tim Hammes,
Miquel Perez,
Raul-Alin Dicu,
Sebastian Pjontek, and
Daniel Bird in the Central Region's top-15. The doubles team of
Perez and
Bird are ranked 19th in the nation and third in the region after a successful fall season. Pjontek and Earle are ranked fifth in the region.
The Ichabods added two more players to the roster for the spring,
Yoshinobu Nakatsuji and transfer
Santiago Rendon. Nakatsuji comes to Washburn from Japan. Rendon transferred in from Norfolk State after he went 7-5 in singles and 5-5 in doubles his freshman season.
