JOPLIN, Mo. -- Khloe Schuckman recorded the first hat trick for Washburn Soccer since 2009 to power the Ichabods (9-2-2, 4-1-1) to a 4-1 win over Missouri Southern State (1-10-1, 1-4-1) on Friday night.
Schuckman's scoring started early when she took a pass from Riley Wells in the eighth minute and pushed the ball in from right in front of the net. The next goal came less than five minutes later as Schuckman was able to head the ball into the left corner of the net off of a corner kick by Jaedyn Johnson.
Just before halftime, the Lions got on the board. Maya Greenquist scored into the left corner of the net off a pass from Aisley Stevens to make it a one-goal game 39 seconds before halftime.
Less than a minute into the second half Schuckman was able to get behind the defense and score again on a pass from Jaedyn Johnson near midfield. With the goal, Schuckman not only recorded the fifth hat trick in Washburn history, but she did also so in 45:46 minutes of game time, the quickest of any of the five. Schuckman also became one of only five players in program history to record six points in a game.
The Ichabods grew the lead again in the 60th minute on a goal by Viviana Soto-Herrera shot into the top right corner of the net after the ball was deflected on a free kick.
Washburn was able to protect the lead for the final 30 minutes without allowing another score. Nine Ichabods saw action off the bench down the stretch.
Washburn finished the game with 14 total shots taken. Schuckman accounted for more than half of those with 8 and six on goal. Both are team highs for a single player this season. In total, the Ichabods had 10 shot attempts on goal. Londyn Furnish had the second most shots with two.
Defensively, Washburn held Missouri Southern State to just five shots in the game and two in the first half. Aisley Stevens had three of the five attempts for the Lions. Four of the five shots for Missouri Southern were on target.
Of the four shots taken Raegan Wells was able to knock down three of them for saves as she played all 90 minutes in goal. Emily Michaelis was the only other Ichabod who played a full 90 minutes.
The Lions split goalkeeping duties evenly, with both Lilly Doneghue and Riley Laver seeing 45 minutes of action. Both allowed two goals and recorded three saves.
By moving to nine wins on the year Washburn matches its win total from the previous season with five games remaining in the regular season. Next up the Ichabods will travel to Warrensburg, Mo. To take on No. 3 Central Missouri on Oct. 9 beginning at 1 p.m.
