WARRENSBURG, Mo. -- Washburn (9-3-2, 4-2-1) lost a 2-0 road contest to No. 3 Central Missouri (12-1-1, 6-1) after allowing two goals in the second half and taking only five shots.
Through the first 45 minutes, the Jennies controlled a slight edge in possession but the defense on both sides dictated the first half of the game. The Ichabods had only three shots in the first half, with only one going on goal.
Central Missouri doubled that total with six shots, although only two of those were on target. The Jennies had one prime scoring opportunity in the 42nd minute with a penalty kick attempt which was knocked down by a diving Raegan Wells for Washburn.
The second half started in many of the same ways, with neither team scoring for the first 15 minutes. In the 60th minute, the Jennies were fouled inside the box again and awarded another penalty kick. Julia Kristensen was able to find the back of the net on that one to take the lead.
In the 61st minute, Carlee Thompson was given a red card, one of five cards issued to Washburn on the day, and the Ichabods were forced to play with 10 the rest of the way.
The group of 10 kept the score the same until the 79th minute when Anna Lack scored from right in front of the net with an assist from Madilyn Hamline to make it 2-0. Washburn would not be able to attempt another shot the rest of the way as the game came to an end.
The Ichabods managed only five shots in the game, with only two on goal. Both of those totals were season lows. Khloe Schuckman took three shots, with two attempts coming on goal and Belle Kennedy took the final two.
Central Missouri ended the game with 15 shots after a slow start. Julia Kristensen, Andree Orcutt and Madilyn Hamline each took three, with Orcutt having two attempts on goal. In goal Sydney Beck played all 90 minutes for the Jennies, recording two saves.
Raegan Wells also played all 90 minutes, knocking down five shots in the game.
Washburn returns home next, taking on the University of Central Oklahoma on Friday, Oct. 14 beginning at 6 p.m.
