Washburn wins 68-58 over Patriots in return home

TOPEKA, Kan. -- Washburn used a hot-shooting first half to come away with a 68-58 win over Baptist Bible College on Monday night.  

The Ichabods forced turnovers early and were able to get out in transition, leading to a 16-9 advantage with 13:26 to play in the first half. A layup by Isaiah Braynen pushed the lead to 18 points with just under eight minutes in the half.  

Washburn ended the half allowing 12 points in the final 12 minutes to lead 40-23 at the break.  

In the second half the Ichabods continued to feast off turnovers by the Patriots while Washburn's other sources of offense slowed down. In the first ten minutes of the half Baptist Bible College got the lead down to 11 points after a brief 8-4 run with some shots starting to fall. 

After Josh Jamison hit a layup with 5:29 to play the lead was at 19 points. The Patriots proceeded to go on a 9-0 run in just under the next three minutes but ran out of time, losing 68-58.  

Isaiah Braynen led the Ichabods in scoring with 18 points, adding four assists and 10 rebounds. Josh Jamison had a double-double, finishing with 16 points and 22 rebounds, as well as four assists. Cameron Heiman finished in double figures with 13 points.  

As a team Washburn outrebounded Baptist Bible College 53-44 and forced them into 18 turnovers and held the Patriots to just 29.9% shooting.  

Baptist had three players finish in double figures, with Alex Kramer's 14 points leading the way.  

The Ichabods will take on Ottawa University next Monday, Nov. 28 in Lee Arena beginning at 7 p.m.
