TOPEKA, Kan. -- Washburn men's junior varsity lost its home opener to Highland Community College, 96-55.
The Ichabods started out hot, leading in the game 9-4 after a layup from Josh Jamison. The Scotties scored the next six points to take a lead and did not look back. Highland ended the first half on a 37-8 run after the score was knotted up at 10.
Washburn scored 37 points in the second half but were unable to stop the Scotties inside as they scored 70 points in the paint en route to the 96-55 victory.
Cameron Heiman led the Ichabods with 26 points, shooting 6-16 from three in the game. Stavian Jones had nine points on three 3-pointers, while also adding three assists. Isaiah Braynen contributed eight points while also grabbing a team-high eight rebounds.
Highland was led in scoring by Gunnar Fort who finished with 20. He was one of four Scotties who reached double figures.
Washburn was outrebounded in the game 52-30 but did shoot 10-27 from three-point range compared to just 2-19 shooting from Highland.
The Ichabods will play again next Monday, Nov. 14 against the University of Sait Mary (Kan.) in Lee Arena at 7 p.m.
