KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Freshman
Tim Hammes was named the MIAA Men's Tennis Athlete of the Week for the North Division, the conference office announced Wednesday afternoon. This is Hammes' first time earning the award in his young career.
No. 21 Washburn men's tennis traveled for two matches against No. 7 Indianapolis and William Jewell in which the Ichabods ultimately dropped their first match to the Greyhounds, 6-1, and swept William Jewell, 7-0.
Hammes battled in his first dual singles loss at number three in the lineup with set scores of, 6-2, 7-5, 3-6, against Indianapolis.
At William Jewell, Hammes teamed up with
Santiago Rendon at the middle doubles spot, winning the matchup 6-1 to clinch the doubles point for Washburn. In singles action, Hammes secured the win over the Cardinals with a 6-4, 5-7, 6-4 victory from the No. 1 spot.
Hammes is 2-1 in doubles action this season with three different partners. In singles, he has compiled a 6-2 record from three different spots in the lineup.
The No. 21 Ichabods hosts MIAA South Division opponent, Ouachita Baptist, on Saturday, February 19. First serve at 1 p.m.
