MANKATO, Minn. -- The Washburn Ichabod softball team fell 3-1 to the No. 11 Minnesota State Mavericks on Saturday at the MSU Dome Classic. The two teams will square off again on Sunday morning.
Washburn starter Reagen Hamm held the Mavericks hitless through the first four innings of the game, but MSU scored all three of its runs in the first capped by a three-run homer by Madi Newman staking the Mavericks to a 3-0 lead.
Washburn (1-2) got on the board in the top of the sixth when
Ashton Friend singled and then moved to second on an error as
Kimi Patterson reached base.
Jaden LaBarge drove in Friend with a pinch-hit single cutting the margin to 3-1 but the Ichabods would not get any closer.
Marrit Mead collected three hits in the game as Washburn outhit the Mavericks 8-2 in the game. Hamm pitched 4 2/3 innings striking out seven walking one allowing two hits.
Katie Bracken picked up the win scattering eight hits striking out one for the Mavericks.
