BOCA RATON, Fla. – The Washburn baseball team dropped the final game of its season opening trip in Florida with a 6-3 loss at Lynn on Monday afternoon. The Ichabods will head down to Alva, Okla. for four games at the Northwestern Oklahoma State Ranger Festival Feb. 11-13.
Washburn's (1-3)
Parker Dunn started a two out rally in the first inning with a walk and then advanced into scoring position on a passed ball. Up next was
Zion Bowlin who reached first base safely on an error by the short stop that also allowed Dunn to race home and give the Ichabods an early 1-0 advantage.
Lynn (4-0) answered with a run of its own in the home half of the first after back-to-back walks and a single brought in the tying run. In his first start as an Ichabod,
Jack Brimacombe got out of a bases loaded jam with two strikeouts to end the inning.
Bowlin got the fourth inning started with a bang as he launched a leadoff opposite field home run to put Washburn back in front, 2-1.
Lynn leveled the score again in the fifth inning before taking the lead with three runs on three hits in the bottom of the sixth. The Fighting Knights added one more run in the seventh frame to make it 6-2 in their favor.
Leading off the ninth,
Kros Bay successfully reached base on another error by the LU short stop and advanced to second.
Tyler Clark-Chiapparelli's single put runners on the corners before
Cale Savage entered the game as a pinch hitter and loaded the bases with a walk.
Easton Bruce recorded a sacrifice fly to right field to bring home Bay and trim the deficit to 6-3. Washburn's late offensive push came up short, though, as the game ended on a pop out and strikeout.
Clark-Chiapparelli finished the day 3-4 at the plate with a double. Bruce landed two hits and had an RBI. Bowlin hit the first home run of the season for the Ichabods.
On the mound, Brimacombe received a no-decision after going 4.0 innings with one hit, one run, six walks, and four strikeouts.
Braden Burcham was tabbed with the loss as he allowed four runs on four hits while recording three strikeouts in 1.2 innings of work.
