EDMOND, Okla. – The Washburn Ichabod softball team had its 17-game winning streak snapped after falling in a pair of games at No. 10-ranked Central Oklahoma in a 15-1 and a 8-5 loss. The Ichabods will step out of MIAA play facing Regis on Tuesday and Colorado Mines on Wednesday to wrap up the week.
Game 1 – UCO 15, WU 1
The Bronchos jumped on the board with four runs taking a 4-0 lead but the Ichabods came back with a solo run in the second inning when
Jaycee Ginter singled and then moved to second on a single by
Kimi Patterson. Ginter would then score on
Jenna Moore's ground out cutting the lead to 4-1. However UCO scored three in the third and then added eight more in the fourth for the run-rule win.
Reagan Hamm took the loss as Washburn was outhit 14-2.
Game 2 – UCO 8, WU 5
UCO scored five in the bottom of the second and then the Ichabods (19-8, 2-2 MIAA) scored a solo run in the top of the third when
Hailey Neira reached after getting hit by a pitch and the Ginter was hit with the bases loaded sending Neira home. UCO (21-4, 4-0 MIAA) scored three in the fourth inning to go up 8-1.
Neither team scored again until the Ichabods put four runs on the board as
Marrit Mead led off the inning with a double and after
Hadley Kerschen was hit, both would come around to score on a triple by Ginter and then
Jaden LaBarge homered driving in two more as the Ichabods trimmed the lead to 8-5, but Washburn picked up two more hits the rest of the way in the loss.
Ginter dropped to 13-2 in the circle while driving in three of Washburn's five runs at the plate. LaBarge drove in two and
Autymn Schreiner had two of the Ichabods' seven hits.
