DENVER, Colo. -- The Washburn Ichabods stepped out of MIAA play splitting a non-conference doubleheader with Regis on Tuesday in Denver. Washburn is back in action on Wednesday against another Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference foe at Metro State starting at 12 p.m. CST.
Game 1 - WU 8, Regis 2
The Ichabods scored in the top of the first after
Marrit Mead walked and then after a single to center by
Autymn Schreiner both Mead and Schreiner both stole home and second taking a 1-0 lead.
Washburn added a solo run in the top of the second with two outs when
Maddie Stipsits doubled to left and then
Paige Robbins doubled to right sending Stipsits home as the Ichabods pushed the lead to 2-0.
In the third, Washburn took advantage of a couple of errors scoring five runs sending 10 to the plate. Schreiner was hit by a pitch and then
Hadley Kerschen singled.
Jaden LaBarge reached on a walk and after a fielder's choice and a catcher's interference, Robbins drove in two with a single up the middle.
The Rangers scored two in the bottom of the sixth cutting the lead to 6-2.
Washburn wrapped up the scoring with a run in the seventh when
Ashton Friend walked and then moved to second on a fielder's choice as Eliington Hogle came into run and she scored on a double by Mead.
Robbins finished with a career-high 3 RBI going 2 for 4 and Kerschen had two hits. Jayce Ginter improved to 14-2 in the circle with 10 strikeouts.
Game 2 - Regis 5, WU 4
After falling behind 3-0 after the Rangers' first at bat, the Ichabods got on the board with two runs in the third after
Jenna Moore walked and then after a Mead single, Schreiner doubled to left center cutting the Regis lead to 3-2.
The Ichabods (20-9) took a 5-4 lead in the top of the fourth after a
Kimi Patterson double and a home run and Friend's 10th home run of the season put the Ichabods up 4-3.
However the lead was short-lived as the Rangers (15-12) hit a two-out homer regaining the lead going up 5-4 in the bottom of the fourth. The Ichabods went stranded two runners in the fifth and moved runner into scoring position in the seventh leaving two on but could not tie up the score in the split.
Mead and Schreiner each had two hits and Schreiner and Friend each had 2 RBI.
Raegen Hamm struck out six allowing four earned runs scattering eight hits.
