TOPEKA, Kan. – The Ichabods dropped a 4-2 decision to No. 16 Augustana (S.D.) on Friday. It is the third top-20 opponent for the women's team in the past week.

In a rare occurrence, Washburn started the match losing the doubles point to the Viking. The Ichabods won the first doubles match at No. 3 doubles. Svea Crohn and Marta Torres won their match 6-2. The Vikings responded defeating Maja Jung and Kinsey Fields at no. 2 doubles, 6-4.

The final doubles match came down to a tiebreaker. Lara Schmid and Isabella Martensson fell in the tiebreaker, 7-2, which lost them the match 7-6 (2).

Despite falling behind 1-0, Washburn responded with two straight singles wins at No. 1 and No. 3 singles. Jung finished first with a strong 6-2, 7-5 win in the third position. Torres fought hard in a three-set victory at No. 1 singles. Torres lost the first set 6-4 then bounced back winning set two 6-4 and set three 6-2. 

Augustana won the next three matches to secure the victory. Crohn fought to keep the Ichabods in the match but did not finish before Augustana's fourth point was earned.

Ichabods host Southwest Baptist on Friday, March 25 at noon at the Washburn Tennis Complex.
