TOPEKA, Kan. – The Ichabods won their third straight match for the first time all season after posting a 6-1 victory Rockhurst on Tuesday. Washburn scored the first four points to clinch the victory.
In doubles competition, the Ichabods (7-8) gave up just two game points.
Kinsey Fields and
Maja Jung got back on track with a dominating 6-0 win at No. 2 doubles. At No. 1 doubles,
Isabella Martensson and
Lara Schmid won 6-1 to secure the doubles point.
Washburn swept doubles play when
Svea Crohn and
Marta Torres earned their 10th win of the season and their eighth win in a row with a 6-1 score.
Torres gave Washburn a 2-0 lead after defeating her opponent in two sets, 6-2, 6-3. From position two, Jung was down 3-0 before scoring six straight game points to take the first set 6-3. She then took that momentum into the second set for a 6-1 win. Crohn was the deciding win from the third spot with scores of 6-3, 6-1.
Despite having lost the match, Rockhurst (5-5) did earn a point with a win at No. 4 singles. Schmid won her match at No. 5 singles 6-2, 6-2. At No. 6 singles
Cadence Lynn topped her opponent 6-2, 7-6 (1).
The Ichabods will be back in action taking on Southern Arkansas and Harding on April 2 and April 3 in Bolivar, Mo.
