EMPORIA, Kan. – No. 16 men's tennis finished conference and the road stretch with a 7-0 sweep at Emporia State. The Ichabods place second in the MIAA/GAC North Division standings with a 3-1 conference record.
The Ichabods (16-4) took the first doubles match with
Raul-Alin Dicu and
Noah Neideck winning their fourth straight, 6-3, at No. 3 doubles. Dicu and Neideck won all four matches since moving to three doubles. Emporia State (5-7) answered by taking No. 1 doubles, 6-4.
Miquel Perez and
Santiago Rendon sealed the doubles point with their 10th win together. The duo defeated Harrison Brown and Luiz Maia, 6-4, at No. 2 doubles.
In singles competition,
Sebastian Pjontek made quick work of Sergio Vera in a 6-2,6-1 victory at No. 4 singles. At No. 3 singles, Perez topped Maia in three sets, 6-1, 4-6, 6-3. Also, in three sets, No. 52 Dicu defeated Brown, 0-6, 6-1, 6-3 in the first position to secure the Washburn victory.
Daniel Bird gave up just one set point in his win 6-0, 6-1 win over Andy Graf at the fifth spot. No. 28 Hammes defeated Theo Belmonte, 6-2, 6-0, at No. 2 singles. Freshman
Noah Neideck finished the sweep when he edged out Theo Belmont, Jaden Tredway, 1-6, 6-1, 1-0(11-9) in the sixth position.
Washburn men head back home for the final two matches of the regular season. The Ichabods host Bethel College on Saturday, April 21 at 2 p.m. for senior day.
