BLUE NOTES
•The 2022 MIAA regular season champion Washburn Ichabod softball team will take its nation's-best 22-game overall winning streak into the MIAA Tournament starting Wednesday in Edmond, Okla. as they will face Emporia State on the Central Oklahoma Campus.
•The Ichabods swept Emporia State (24-28, 13-13 MIAA) is the No. 8 seed in the tournament … Washburn won 5-1 and 13-3 in six innings on Saturday in Emporia.
•The 24 MIAA wins for the Ichabods is the most since recording 23 during the 2018 season when the Ichabods won the regular season title.
•The Ichabods (42-11, 24-2 MIAA) have won their last 22 games coming off the sweep over the Hornets … the 22-game winning streak is the longest in the nation entering the weekend.
•
Brenda Holaday is in her sixth season as the Ichabod softball head coach recording a 175-112 overall record going 91-41 in MIAA contests leading the Ichabods to their first MIAA Regular Season title in her second year in 2018 and the fourth in school history this season. She has also led the Ichabods to an NCAA Central Regional berth in 2018, the fourth in school history.
•The Ichabods finished the home slate at Gahnstrom Field 26-0.
•Washburn moved its school-best winning streak to 22 games.
•The 26-game winning streak at Gahnstrom Field is currently the second-longest in the country trailing Augustana's 43-game streak.
•The Ichabods recorded their first 40-win season since 2002 when the Ichabods went 48-11 … overall the Ichabods have had now four seasons with at least 40 wins - 41 (1999), 48 (2002) and 50 (1986) and this season's 40 to this point.
IN THE MIAA TOURNAMENT
•The Ichabods have compiled a 34-51 record in the MIAA Tournament dating back to the 1991 season when Washburn was first eligible for the event.
•Against the MIAA Schools in the postseason tournament.
Central Missouri • The Ichabods are 6-8 against the Jennies falling in 2 of 3 games in the 2021 postseason tournament.
Central Oklahoma • The Ichabods are 0-1 against the Bronchos losing the last meeting on April 30, 2015 in Overland Park.
Emporia State • The Ichabods trail the ESU in tournament match ups 10-2. Washburn has not beat Emporia State in the MIAA Tournament since a 6-3 win during the 1998 tournament.
Fort Hays State • The Ichabods lost the only meeting in MIAA Tournament play to the Tigers on May 7, 2011 in a 5-3 loss.
Lincoln • The Ichabods are 3-0 against the Blue Tigers.
Missouri Southern • The Lions lead the conference tournament match ups 5-2.
Missouri Western • The Ichabods are 2-9 against the Griffons in MIAA Tournament meetings.
Northeastern State • Washburn is 0-1 against the RiverHawks.
Northwest Missouri • Washburn is 3-2 against the Bearcats winning the last meeting on May 6, 2011 with a walk-off grand slam.
Pittsburg State • The Ichabods have played the Gorillas the most in the tournament, nine times with the series tied 5-5. The Ichabods last played the Gorillas in the opening round of the 2015 tournament.
THE WEEK THAT WAS
•The Ichabods were 4-0 last week with the doubleheader sweeps over Rogers State and Emporia State.
•
Jaycee Ginter was 3-0 with a save in four appearances during the week with a 1.05 ERA striking out 15 in 20 innings allowing three earned runs as the Ichabods clinched the outright MIAA Championships this week. In the opening game against #8 Rogers State, she struck out six allowing one hit with no walks tossing 82 pitches. In the second game against the Hillcats, Ginter pitched two innings nailing down the save striking out one. In the opening game at Emporia State picking up the first of her two wins on the day, she allowed one earned run striking out five tossing seven innings and in the second game, she tossed four innings in the run-rule win.
•Autymn Schriener led the Ichabods with a .455 batting average with five hits and crushed her game-winning home run (the second of her career) to lead the Ichabods to a 3-2 win in the second game in the fifth inning against Rogers State. She recorded a .727 slugging percentage recording hits in 3 of the 4 games while also not committing an error at shortstop in 13 chances with four assists.
•In the first game against Rogers State,
Ashton Friend's two-run homer broke a scoreless tie in the bottom of the seventh for the walk-off win.
•
Jaden LaBarge recorded a .444 batting average with a home run and 2 RBI while
Marrit Mead had five hits with 6 RBI including a career-high five against Emporia State in the second game.
•The Ichabod pitching staff recorded an ERA of 0.97 for the week.

Jaycee Ginter leads the NCAA Division II ranks with 28 wins season entering the weekend … out of all NCAA Division I, II, and III she is ranked second behind Georgina Corrick from South Florida who has 31 wins … she is eighth in total strikeouts with 256 … she already owns the Ichabod single-season strikeout mark … with the bat, she is 30th in the nation in RBI with 53.
•In MIAA play
Paige Robbins is batting .458 and
Jaycee Ginter has 27 RBI in 16 conference games.

Raegen Hamm became Washburn's all-time leader in strikeouts at Nebraska-Kearney passing Kathy Mohler who played for Washburn from 1997-2000 … Hamm enters the weekend with 440.

MIAA PRESEASON POLL
The Washburn Ichabod softball team was tabbed sixth in the MIAA Preseason Coaches Poll that was released prior to the start of the season by the league office.Â
The Ichabods picked up 117 total points trailing Missouri Western in fifth with 118 and Missouri Southern in fourth with 124. Central Oklahoma was the preseason favorite with eight first-place votes and 162 total points and Central Missouri had 158 points with six first-place votes. Rogers State was third with 142 points.

LAST TIME OUT
EMPORIA, Kan. -- The Washburn Ichabods rolled to a doubleheader sweep over Emporia State and coupled with Central Oklahoma's loss to Pittsburg State, Washburn clinched its third MIAA regular season championship and its second since 2018 under head coach
Brenda Holaday while winning its 22nd game in a row. Washburn finishes off the regular season 42-11 and 24-2 in the MIAA and will be the No. 1 seed in the postseason tournament next weekend in Edmond.
Game 1 - WU 5, ESU 1
The Ichabods started the game with three runs in the top of the first after
Marrit Mead drew a walk and then after a single by
Paige Robbins and a walk by
Jaycee Ginter, Ashston Friend grounded out scoring Mead.
Hadley Kerschen's two-out single scored both Robbins and Ginter as Washburn went up 3-0.
The Hornets came back with a run of their own in the bottom of the first cutting the lead to 3-1.
After scoreless at bats in the second and third for the Ichabods, Kerschen led off the fourth with a walk and
Autymn Schreiner singled to right moving Kerschen over to second.
Kaylee Wagner came in as a pinch hitter and her sac fly scored Kerschen and then Mead's single up the middle scored Schreiner as the Ichabods went up 5-1 wrapping up the scoring.
Ginter moved to 27-3 scattering six hits allowing an earned run while striking out five. Friend and Schreiner each had two hits and Kerschen drove in two.
Game 2 - WU 13, ESU 3
The Ichabods scored nine runs in the first three innings cruising to the 13-3 win.
Mead started off the game with a homer and then after Friend walked, LaBarge doubled to left scoring Friend as the Ichabods went up 2-0.
In the second, Washburn scored a pair of runs with two outs when Mead doubled scoring Stipsits who walked as the Ichabods went up 4-0.
The Ichabods added to their lead in the third when LaBarge hit a homer to center and then after singles from Kerschen and Schreiner and a walk from Stipsits loading the bases, Mead singled through the left side scoring Schreiner and Kerschen. After Robbins' single and Ginter came up and singled to left scoring both Mead and Stipsits as the Ichabods pushed their lead to 9-0.
The Hornets added two runs in the bottom of the fourth cutting the lead to 9-2.
In the sixth, Washburn added four more runs when Stipsits cleared the bases with a triple scoring Schreiner, Kerschen and Moore after all three singled. Mead then drove in her career-best fifth RBI of the game scoring Stipsits with a single as Washburn went up 13-3.
ESU scored a run in the bottom of the sixth making the final margin 10 for the 13-3 run-rule win.
Mead finished 3 for 5 with her 5 RBI and scored three runs and LaBarge also had three hits driving in two. Stipsits also scored three runs.
Ginter picked up her second win of the day as she finished the regular season with a 28-3 record.
