Ichabods blank Northeastern State 2-0 for program record eighth straight win

TOPEKA, Kan. -- Washburn (9-1-0, 3-0-0) scored two goals in the first half and recorded a third straight shutout against Northeastern State (2-4-4, 0-3-1) to win a program record eighth straight match Sunday afternoon. The Ichabods complete a four-match home stand and head on the road next week against Missouri Western on Oct. 6.

Mackinly Rohn was able to get the scoring started early in the Pink Out match, going across the left endline around the defense and drive the ball into the top right corner of the net for her second goal of the season in the ninth minute.

Washburn's defense stood stout the rest of the first half, holding the RiverHawks to just two shots over the first 45 minutes of the half. In the 38th minute Jadyn Allen and Riley Painter were able to push the ball up field to Ana Muruzabal. The southpaw booted the ball into the left corner of the net for a 2-0 lead.

The Ichabods defense kept up the pressure into the second half even while playing slower. Northeastern State managed only one shot in the second half which was not on target. Raegan Wells recorded a third straight solo shutout in the match, making one save with the stingy defense in front allowing only three total shots.

The RiverHawks were able to get four corner kicks compared to three for the Ichabods but the Washburn defense didn't allow any shots off of them. On defense Josie Boyle and Jordan Tenpas played all 90 minutes to help hold Northeastern State in check across the board.

Washburn took nine shots in the game with eight of them going on-target. Belle Kennedy and Muruzabal each had two shots on goal to lead in that department.

With the win the Ichabods completed a 4-0 homestand and stay undefeated at Yager Stadium on the year at 6-0. Overall, they have not trailed in a match since the second half of the Sep. 3 match against the University of Missouri – St. Louis. Washburn also remains undefeated at 3-0 in MIAA play.

Rebecca Partyka played all 90 minutes in goal for Northeastern State recording six saves in the match.
