No. 8 Ichabods buck Bronchos on the road in 2-1 win

EDMOND, Okla. -- No. 8 Washburn (13-1-1, 7-0-1) went back and forth against the Bronchos (4-5-6, 1-3-4) on Friday night but scored the last goal of the match to come away with a 2-1 win against Central Oklahoma on the road. The Ichabods go to Wichita on Sunday to take on Newman at 1 p.m.

With the win Washburn guarantees that it will finish in the top four of the MIAA regular season and host a quarterfinals match in the MIAA Championship Tournament. The result also keeps the Ichabods undefeated and makes 13 straight matches without a losing result, setting a new program record.

Washburn had a balanced night with one goal in each half, the first coming in the 31st minute after the Ichabods drew a free kick just past midfield. Jordan Tenpas took the chance, delivering the ball into the box deflecting off a UCO player in the air and headed into the net by Belle Kennedy to put Washburn on the board.

The Bronchos took seven shots in the first half but came up empty. On the first shot in the second half they found the back of the net with Amaya Grace scoring in the 49th minute. The tie would not last long with the Ichabods intercepting a pass in the 60th minute and giving off to Khloe Schuckman who took it down the left side of the field, scoring into the middle of the net to make it 2-1.

Central Oklahoma led the match in shots 14 to 11 but the Washburn defense was able to hold on the rest of the way for win number 13. Raegan Wells made saves on six Bronchos shots and played all 90 minutes. Tenpas, Josie Boyle and Taylor Bockover each played all 90 minutes of the match on defense.

Schuckman led the Ichabods in shots with four and had three of Washburn's seven shots on goal. Aubrey Tanksley had three shots with two going on target.

Caroline Faulkner played all 90 minutes in goal for the Bronchos making five saves in the match.
