MARYVILLE, Mo. -- No. 25 Washburn (10-1-1, 4-0-1) had its nine-match winning streak ended on Sunday afternoon with a 1-1 draw against Northwest Missouri State (3-4-5, 0-2-3) on the road. The Ichabods return home next week and face Missouri Southern on Friday at 6 p.m.
The tie is the first of the season for Washburn but keeps the Ichabods in a tie for first place in the MIAA.
Washburn did its scoring in the first half and the Bearcats were able to make up ground in the second and continued to knock at the door. Late in the ninth minute Mackinly Rohn got a dish from Belle Kennedy, secured the ball and shot it from straight away into the top right corner of the net to put the Ichabods up early.
Offensively the first half was dominated by Washburn, which took seven shots in the first 45 minutes while holding Northwest Missouri to just one attempt.
Shortly after halftime the Bearcats got a free kick on the left side of the field which was taken by Sydney Mueller. She was able to send the ball all the way over the box in the air and into the top right corner of the net late in the 49th minute to tie the match.
After taking seven shots in the first half the Ichabods were held to just two attempts in the second, with neither going on goal. The Bearcats took ten total shots in the second half to claim the advantage in the match 11 to nine. Washburn was able to work three corner kicks in the second half, and four total in the game while holding NWMSU to zero attempts, but were not able to convert on them.
Rohn led the Ichabods with three shots total in the match, her and Riley Wells each had two attempts go on-target to lead the team. Raegan Wells played all 90 minutes in goal, making six saves on the shots she faced. Jordan Tenpas and Josie Boyle each played all 90 minutes on defense.
Lily Ellis logged a full 90 minutes in goal for the Bearcats, making five saves all in the first half.
