FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – Washburn baseball found itself down 11-0 after the third inning and could not recover as the Ichabods fell at No. 22-ranked Nova Southeastern on Friday evening, 12-3. The Ichabods will play next on Saturday at Palm Beach Atlantic.
Nova Southeastern (3-1) took an early 3-0 lead in the first inning after two singles, two walks, and an error. The Sharks added eight runs on seven hits in the third to go up 11-0.
The Ichabods (1-5) got on the board in the fourth inning.
Connor Scott hit a one out single and moved up to second on a groundout.
Cal Watkins drew a walk and then both runners scored on a triple by
Trevor McCollum.
Washburn held Nova Southeastern scoreless from the fourth until the seventh inning when the Sharks tacked on one final run with a solo shot over the wall down the left field line.
The Ichabods still showed some fight in the ninth inning as
Ike Book led off the frame with a walk and then advanced to second on a groundout.
Shane Morrow followed that up with an infield single and in his second collegiate plate appearance,
Kuyper Kendall drove in a run with his first hit to right center.
NSU outhit WU, 13-7. McCollum finished the night 2-4 at the plate and drove in two of Washburn's runs. Scott also had two hits and scored once. Freshman
Cade Parry played in his first game for Washburn and got the start at designated hitter. He also pitched a scoreless eighth inning and struck out two.
Julian Zamora tossed two innings in relief and allowed one run on three hits and finished with a career-high four strikeouts.
