MIAMI SHORES, Fla. – The Ichabods came up just short on a blustery day at Barry University and lost by the score of 9-8 on Sunday afternoon. The Ichabods will conclude their Florida trip with an afternoon game at Lynn University on Monday.

Trey Adams gave the Ichabods (1-7) a quick 2-0 lead with one swing of the bat in the first inning.
Trevor McCollum led off the game with a single up the middle and trotted home on Adams' first home run in a Washburn uniform.

The Buccaneers (5-1) got one run back in the bottom half of the inning after a one out hit by pitch and back-to-back stolen bases got the runner to third who then scored on a sacrifice fly.

In the third inning, Adams drew a seven pitch walk with one out and moved up to second on a sacrifice bunt. A pair of wild pitches allowed Adams to score and make it 3-1 in favor of Washburn.

Barry put up three runs in the home half of the third for its first lead of the afternoon, 4-3.

The score didn't stay that way for long as
Easton Bruce stepped up to the plate with two runners on and sent an 0-2 pitch over the right field wall to put the Ichabods back in front, 6-4.

Washburn added another run in the fifth to extend its lead.
Cal Watkins led off the frame with a stand up double and
Cale Savage's single put runners on the corner for
Ike Book, who singled up the middle to drive in Watkins.

The Buccaneers reclaimed the lead in the bottom of the fifth inning at 9-7 with five runs on five hits. In the inning, Barry hit two doubles and three home runs.

The Ichabods trimmed the deficit to one in the sixth inning. Bruce reached on a fielder's choice and
Caden Bressler kept the inning alive with a single to the pitcher. Adams came through again with an RBI single down the left field line.

Jayden Payne took over on the mound in the sixth and retired the side in order. In the seventh, the defense helped him erase a one out single with a 6-4-3 double play to end the inning and keep it at a one run game.

The Ichabods threatened to score in the eighth and had runners on second and third with two outs, but were unable to get a run in.

Payne notched another 1-2-3 inning in the bottom of the eighth to send it to the ninth still at 9-8. Washburn went down quietly, though, with three flyouts to the outfield to end the game.

The Ichabods out hit the Buccaneers, 13-8, but also left nine runners on base. Adams finished the day going 3-4 with a home run, three RBI, two runs scored, and a walk. Bruce also drove in three runs and scored twice. Bressler and Savage each had two hits and Savage legged out a triple.

Ichabod starter
Rane Pfeifer pitched the first three innings and allowed four runs on two hits, three walks, and two hit batters while striking out three. Payne worked the last scoreless innings and allowed one single and recorded two strikeouts.
