BENTONVILLE, Ark. -- The No. 22-ranked Washburn Ichabod softball team fell in a pitcher's duel with a 1-0 loss to Arkansas Tech in its final game of the Alvy Early Memorial Classic. The Ichabods, who were scheduled to play in the Emporia State Classic next weekend will have their home schedule pushed up a week as games in Emporia have been moved to Gahnstrom Field. The Ichabods (7-2) and the Golden Suns (6-3) were each held without a hit until the top of the fourth when Washburn starter
Jaycee Ginter doubled to center but was stranded at second.
Washburn added two more hits in the sixth when
Marrit Mead singled followed by a single by
Paige Robbins. Ginter was hit by a pitch to load the bases, but Washburn left the bases loaded.
In the bottom of the sixth, the Golden Suns picked up their first hit of the game with two outs but they did not score leaving her at first.
Arkansas Tech picked up two hits in the seventh, leaving both on base. The Ichabods picked up a hit in the eight, however they could not push a run across and in the bottom of the eight, Makenzie Goins' two-out home run ended the game.
Mead had two of Washburn's four hits and Goins had two of the Golden Suns' four hits.
Ginter took the loss in the circle falling to 5-1 on the season striking out nine in the game. Bailey Buffington (4-1) took the win striking out four for ATU.
