TOEPKA, Kan. – The No. 21-ranked Washburn Ichabods went 2-0 on the second day of the ESU Classic at Gahnstrom Field in Topeka topping a pair of NSIC teams with a 6-1 win over Concordia-St. Paul and a 9-0 win over Winona State. Washburn (10-3) will be back in action on Monday afternoon at 2:30 pm hosting Quincy.
Game 1 – WU 6, CSP 1

Jaycee Ginter picked up the first of two wins in the circle on the afternoon pitching the first four innings and
Sheyenne Cheek tossed the final three earning her first save as an Ichabod in a 6-1 win.
The ichabods score three in the first inning when
Ellington Hogle singled to start the inning and then
Hadley Kerschen singled and both scored on a home run by Ginter staking the Ichabods to a 3-0 lead.
Washburn added two more in the third when
Marrit Mead singled and then
Jaden LaBarge homered putting Washburn up 5-0.
The Golden Bears (2-6) scored one in the fifth ending the shutout and then Washburn came back with one of its own in the bottom of the fifth when
Paige Robbins doubled and then
Autymn Schreiner grounded out scoring Robbins for the final run of the game.
Ginter drove in three in the game and Mead,
Hadley Kerschen and
Hailey Neira collected two hits each.
Ginter moved to 7-1 in the circle with five strikeouts facing the minimum in four innings. Cheek pitched the final three innings for the save striking out two scattering three hits.
Game 2 – WU 9, Winona State 0 (5 innings)
The Ichabods scored two in the first inning after back to back walks by Hogle and Kerschen and then Ginter was hit by a pitch loading the bases. Hogle scored on a fielder's choice and then Kerschen scored on a wild pitch.
In the second, Washburn scored five runs on four hits taking a 7-0 lead. Schreiner walked and then
Kaylee Wagner singled. After an Ichabod sac bunt by Neira, Hogle walked and then Kerschen singled up the middle scoring Schreiner. Ginter singled up the middle driving in Kerschen and Hogle. Then Robbins singled up the middle driving in Kerschen and Ginter as the Ichabods pushed the lead to seven after two innings.
Neither team scored until the fourth when the Ichabods put two more on the scoreboard when Mead singled and then swiped second. Mead scored on a fielding error by the Warriors (5-1) and after a double to center by Schreiner scoring Robbins Washburn led 9-0.
Ginter struck out eight allowing three hits in the five-inning shutout driving in two with the bat. Robbins finished with 2 RBI. Hogle and Kerschen each scored twice.
