KEARNEY, Neb. -- No. 21 Washburn won its fourth match in a row with a 7-0 sweep of Fort Hays State (5-5, 0-2) in a neutral court matchup to open MIAA play for the Ichabods. Washburn continues its weekend against No. 22 Nebraska Kearney tomorrow at 11 a.m.  

Doubles play was a swift affair for the Ichabods (6-2, 1-0) who won on all three courts. Isabella Martensson and Issabella Pensavalle started the action with a 6-0 win at No. 3. Casie Curry and Marta Torres followed suit with their own 6-0 victory at No. 2. The newly No. 9 ranked pairing of Sonia Smagina and Maja Jung completed the sweep of doubles with a 6-2 win on court No. 1.  

Just like in doubles Martensson had a quick finish in singles play, winning her No. 5 match in two sets, both 6-1. No. 33 Jung worked quickly on court two, winning in two sets by scores of 6-2 and 6-3. Curry clinched the match for Washburn, winning 6-1, 6-0 at No. 4.  

Torres continued her match at No. 3, winning 6-0 the first set and finishing with a 6-3 victory in the second. No. 2 ranked Smagina stayed unbeaten in the spring winning 6-0 and 6-1 at No. 1. Pensavalle completed the sweep at No. 6 with set victories of 6-2 and 6-3.
