EDMOND, Okla. -- No. 25 Washburn women's tennis began postseason play with a 4-0 sweep of No. 38 Missouri Western State, advancing to the MIAA Championship match at 10 a.m. Sunday, April 23 against Northeastern State. The winner of the tournament will automatically qualify for the NCAA Regional Tournament.

This season the Ichabods didn't drop a single point, beginning with doubles where the No. 7 duo of Sonia Smagina and Maja Jung won 6-1 at No. 1. Issabella Pensavalle and Isabella Martensson ended doubles play shortly after with a 6-3 win at No. 2.

Casie Curry and Marta Torres led 5-4 on court three when the point was decided.

Jung was tied 4-4 on No. 2 with Anya Chavez in her first set before winning the final two games to come away with a 6-4 win. She continued that momentum into the second set, winning 6-3 to send Washburn to the Championship.

Three matches were left unfinished, Torres at No. 4 won her opening set 6-2, lost 6-3 in the second and was trailing 3-0 in the third when the match finished. Martensson lost 6-3 in the first set at No. 5, bounced back to win 6-3 in the second and was tied 1-1 in the third, Pensavalle at No. 6 won her first set 6-4 and was trailing 3-1 in the second.
