EDMOND, Okla. – Washburn baseball scored in the first and ninth innings, but the offense fell silent in between as the Ichabods lost at Central Oklahoma on Thursday evening, 9-5. First pitch of game two will be 3 p.m. on Friday.
The Ichabods (21-14, 14-7 MIAA) jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning, scoring all three runs with two outs.
Cale Savage kept the inning alive by drawing a walk and then moved to third on a single by
Easton Bruce.
Trey Adams drove in the first run of the game with a single to right field. A wild pitch moved both runners into scoring position and they both scored on a double down the right field line from
Ike Book.
Central Oklahoma (24-11, 12-9 MIAA) put together a two-out rally of its own in the third and took a 4-3 lead after four-straight runs scored.
The Bronchos scored in four of the next five innings to increase their lead to 9-3 at the end of the eighth.
In the ninth inning,
Andrew Schmidtlein hit a one-out double down the left field line and then scored on
Otto Jones' single.
Caden Bressler landed the Ichabods' third-consecutive hit with a single to move Jones over to third, who then scored on
Trevor McCollum's sacrifice fly for the final run of the contest.
Central Oklahoma out hit Washburn, 10-7. Each of Washburn's 4-through-9 hitters recorded a hit as Bressler finished the day 2-4. Book landed one hit, was walked once, and drove in two runs.
