EDMOND, Okla. – Central Oklahoma took the lead in the seventh inning and went on to close out the sweep of Washburn baseball on Saturday with a 7-3 decision. The Ichabods will wrap up their 11-game road trip with a midweek matinee at Northwest Missouri on April 11.
The Bronchos (26-11, 14-9 MIAA) got on the board in the first after a leadoff walk stole second and third base before scoring on a sacrifice fly.
Central Oklahoma added another run the following inning after a leadoff walk eventually scored on a bunt single.
In the fourth inning, UCO struggled with its command on the mound as three Ichabods were issued walks. With the bases loaded, Andrew Schmidtlein knotted up the score on a two-RBI single up the middle and Caden Bressler knocked in the go-ahead run with a single through the left side.
The Ichabods (21-16, 14-9 MIAA) held the one-run lead until the bottom of the seventh, when the Bronchos jumped in front with three runs to go up, 5-3. UCO pushed its lead to 7-3 after a pair of runs scored in the eighth frame and then closed out the game by retiring the Ichabods in order in the ninth.
Central Oklahoma out hit Washburn, 8-5. Bressler finished the day 2-4 at the plate with an RBI. Cal Watkins also landed two hits
