ST. LOUIS, Mo. -- Washburn Ichabod soccer began the 2023 season with a 2-0 neutral field victory over Drury University behind second half goals from Khloe Schuckman and Viviana Soto-Herrera. The tour of St. Louis will conclude on Sunday with a road contest against Missouri – St. Louis.
For the first 45 minutes of action the score stayed the way it started knotted at zero. The Ichabod offense created more chances than the Panthers, outshooting Drury (0-1) seven to five in the first half with five of the shots on target for Washburn (1-0).
The match's deciding goal came in the 47th minute as Khloe Schuckman was able to break the tie and put the Ichabods in front. Schuckman helped add some safety to the lead by assisting Viviana Soto-Herrera in the 83rd minute for the second goal of the match.
The two goals came as part of a second half offensive attack which featured 10 total shots for Washburn. On the other end Drury was held to 10 total shots in the match with only two going on target.
Schuckman led the Ichabods with five shots, Soto-Herrera and Belle Kennedy each had four. Raegan Wells anchored the first shutout of the season making two saves. In front of her Lakin Rold and Jordan Tenpas each logged a full 90 minutes on defense in the shutout.
The Panthers had four players attempt two shots each while Kaitlin Knetzke made seven saves in goal.
