ST. LOUIS, Mo. -- Washburn soccer fell 3-1 on the road to the University of Missouri – St. Louis Sunday afternoon in the squads first loss of the season. The Ichabods next action will come in Topeka at the 2023 home opener Friday, Sep. 8 against Southwest Minnesota State at 6 p.m.
Washburn scored the first goal of the match but the Tritons scored one in the first half to even the score and two more in the second to come away with the victory. The Ichabods goal came early, with Khloe Schuckman netting her second goal of the season in the ninth minute after the Triton goalkeeper was drawn out of the box. Lakin Rold and Riley Wells each helped assist the games opening goal.
The Tritons evened the score in the 26th minute with a goal by Sophie Steinmetz which completed the scoring of the opening 45 minutes. UMSL scored the game-winner in the 57th minute with Jaycee Cotton scoring off a corner kick.
After taking four shots in the first half the Washburn offense was limited to just two shots in the second half. The deficit in the game became two with a third Triton goal in the 80th minute to put the match out of reach.
Missouri – St. Louis took 10 total shots in the game with four going on goal, Washburn had three on target. Neither side was able to earn many corner kicks, the Tritons earned two and the Ichabods one.
Raegan Wells made one save playing all 90 minutes in goal for Washburn. Rold and Jordan Tenpas joined her in playing the entire match on the defensive side. Belle Kennedy had three of six shots for the Ichabods, with two going on goal. Twenty total players made appearances for Washburn, all logging at least five minutes.
Mary Kate Neal played all 90 minutes in goal for UMSL making two saves and two of the three goals for the Tritons came from the bench.
