Second half scores lead Ichabods to 2-1 road win over Nebraska-Kearney

KEARNEY, Neb. -- Washburn used a pair of second half goals and a stingy defensive effort to win its fourth match in a row defeating Nebraska-Kearney 2-1 on Sunday afternoon. The Ichabods (5-1) will return to Yager Stadium next Friday, Sep. 22 against Fort Hays State at 6 p.m. in the final non-conference match of the season.

Neither team was able to find the back of the net in the first half of the match, Ana Muruzabal had three of Washburn's four total shots in the first half, all going on goal, while the Lopers (1-5) were held to just one total attempt.

Finally in the 53rd minute Khloe Schuckman was able to find space on the right side of the field, shooting a ball into the box that deflected off a Kearney defender and found the top right part of the net to break the tie.

The Ichabods added some insurance in the final 10 minutes as Aubrey Tanksley netted one in the 83rd minute with an assist from Riley Wells. The Lopers were able to get on the board in the 89th minute with an assisted goal but it was too little, too late and Washburn was able to control the clock for the final 90 seconds of the match.

Nebraska-Kearney was held to just four total shots all game with all four going on goal, while the Ichabods took 10 shots with half of them on-target. Washburn generated a season-high nine corner kick attempts, with six coming in the second half alone.

Twenty-one players saw action for the Ichabods in the second game of the weekend, and five different players recorded shots in the match with Muruzabal's three and Viviana Soto-Herrera's two shots leading Washburn.

Raegan Wells played all 90 minutes in goal, tying her season-high with three saves in the match. Josie Boyle led the Ichabod defense with 85 minutes played in support of Wells.

For the Lopers, Susie Bovaird played all 90 minutes in goal making three saves and Corynne Olsen notched the goal for Nebraska-Kearney.
