TOPEKA, Kan. -- Washburn soccer (8-1-0, 2-0-0) tied a program record Friday night winning a seventh straight match on a late goal to beat Rogers State (4-3-2, 2-1-0) 1-0. The Ichabods will look to continue the streak Sunday at 1 p.m. against Northeastern State.
The lone goal of the game came from Aubrey Tanksley in the 80th minute on a ball that had deflected off a Hillcat player inside the box and Tanksley was able to sneak it into the left corner of the net.
Washburn had an offensive advantage from the start with the Ichabods taking eight shots in the first half while holding Rogers State to just one attempt. Both sides were even in the second half, taking three each.
After the Washburn goal the Hillcats got a shot on goal in the 88th minute after a yellow card on the Ichabods, one of five total yellow cards in the match. Raegan Wells was able to collect the line drive kick for her second save of the night and Washburn was able to drain the last remaining minutes off the clock and earn the victory.
Of the Ichabods 11 total shots Khloe Schuckman led with three attempts, one going on goal. Viviana Soto-Herrera and Tanksley each had two attempts with both of Tanksley's going on target.
After playing all 90 minutes, Wells earned her fourth solo shutout of the season, moving her into the top-spot in shutouts for program history. Joining her in the back were Josie Boyle and Jordan Tenpas who played the entire match and helped hold Rogers State to just four total shots on the night.
Tiffany Brittan played all 90 minutes in goal for Rogers State, making two saves. No Hillcat had more than one shot attempt in the match.
