TOPEKA, Kan. – The Washburn Ichabod soccer team opened its home slate in grand fashion with a 4-0 win over Southwest Minnesota State. The Ichabods (2-1) will return to action on Sunday hosting Wayne State (Neb.) at 1 p.m.
Washburn's first goal of the night came off a corner kick when
Mackinly Rohn found
Riley Wells in front of the net in the 21st minute to put the Ichabods on top first. Just over seven minutes later
Ana Muruzabal doubled up the Washburn lead when she followed up a Rohn shot from outside the box for her first goal of the season.
Washburn added to the lead in the 37th minute on an unassisted goal from
Jadyn Allen when she scored from 12 yards out. In the 40th minute, Muruzabal scored her second goal of the match on a header off another corner kick assist from Rohn as the Ichabods took the 4-0 lead into the break.
The Ichabods outshot the Mustangs (0-3) 8-4 in the match and 3-0 in the second half and had an 8-1 advantage in corner kicks.
The three assists from Rohn tied a school record for most assists in a match for the fourth time in program history and the first time since Tia Stovall had three against Southwest Baptist on Sept. 26, 2009.
Raegen Wells played the first 45 minutes of the match while both
Hailey Beck an
Alli Harrington saw action. Beck had the lone save for the Ichabods in the match.
