ROME, Ga. -- Tim Hammes and Matthew Earle will play for an ITA Cup Doubles National Championship on Sunday morning after winning in straight sets on Saturday afternoon. The Championship dual is set for 9 a.m. CST on Sunday.
To secure their third win in as many days Tim Hammes and Matthew Earle knocked off Diego Duran and Sebastian Rodon in two sets, both going to the Ichabod duo 6-4. Hammes has the chance to repeat as an ITA Cup Doubles Champion after winning the first ever title for Washburn men's tennis last fall with Santiago Rendon.
In the finals they will face the winner of the late night match between Daniel Hammond and Benedeck Szombathelyi of Columbus State University and Luis Iriarte and Eduardo Cohen from Saint Leo.
Beginning the day in doubles Hammes picked up a win in the North Stage over Jorge Perez of the University of Charleston 6-3, 7-6(3). From the South Draw, Schneider also won in straight sets, defeating Azuza Pacific's Elias Walter 6-3, 6-4.
On the women's side for doubles Isabella Martensson and Leo Floeth came up just short in a three set dual against Jessica Binzari and Anda Ghinga from Midwestern State. The duo took the first set 7-5 before falling 6-3 in the second and 10-7 in the tiebreaker.
Renske Ubachs and Daniela Tijaro did the opposite in the North Draw, dropping the first set 6-3 before winning 7-5 in the second and 10-5 in the third to advance past Arianna Audelo and Quin Brady of Point Loma Nazarene.
Vasek Schneider and Tommy Cecchetti continued to win in the West Draw of men's doubles. They defeated Adrian Solorzano and Cas de Ruiter of Harding 6-1, 6-4 to wrap up the day.
