FOR STARTERS
The Washburn Ichabod men's golf team will host the first of two tournaments this season beginning with the Ichabod Invitational at Topeka Country Club Oct. 21-22. The tournament is the first the Ichabods have hosted at TCC since winning the Ichabod Invitational on Oct. 3-4, 2022.

WHO'S INVITED
There are 14 scheduled teams for the event including 11 from the MIAA. The Ichabods will have two teams entered.
 
COURSE INFO
Historic Topeka Country Club completed an extensive golf course renovation and enhancement project in the later summer 2023 that was led by Kansas-based architect Todd Clark and golf historian and designer Ron Whitten. The 4.5 million dollar project focused on modernizing and improving the 83-year-old golf course.
The project marks the first major renovation of the iconic Perry Maxwell-designed golf course since it originally debuted in 1940. Thomas Bendelow designed the Club's first 9-hole course which opened in 1906 that was updated in 1921 by Langford and Moreau to an 18-hole facility.
Clark and Whitten's design enhancements include the addition of a beautiful cascading water feature to the 15th hole that feeds a pond in front of the 17th green – Maxwell's original Topeka Country Club design did not include any water hazards. The new water feature is similar to what Maxwell created at Southern Hills Country Club in Tulsa, Oklahoma and Colonial Country Club in Fort Worth, Texas. In addition, the removal of invasive trees helped improve agronomic conditions, while also enhancing the long-range views across the golf course, revealing the magnificent rolling topography of Topeka Country Club.
 
ICHABOD LINEUP
The Ichabods will Blake Saffell, Marco Anderson, Hayden Beck, Zach Vandervoort and Quinn Earwood. Playing as individuals will be Lane Workmank Zachary Haydamack, James Hill and Michael Matteucci.
 
LAST TIME OUT
(Oct. 8, 2024) ST. JOSEPH, Mo. – The Washburn Ichabod men's golf team moved up one spot in the final round of the Missouri Western Central Regional Preview finishing in fourth place overall and four shots of out second on the final day of the 54-hole event. 
Blake Saffell moved up seven places in his final round recording four birdies and a bogey en route to a 3-under 68 after rounds of 72 and 70 for a 54-hole total of 210 finishing in a tie for seventh overall.
Marco Anderson finished in a tie for 18th overall with matching 1-over 72's in each round for a total of 216 moving up three places on the leaderboard.
Zach Vandervoort had the biggest move up the leaderboard on the final day climbing 17 places after firing a 1-over 72. He had rounds of 74 and 76 to finish in a tie for 40th with a final scorecard of 222.
Hayden Beck also finished in a tie for 40th after closing with a 3-over 74 in his final round after recording scores of 79 and 69 on the first day.
Quinn Earwood finished with a final round of 81 for a 54-hole score of 226 with rounds of 75 and 70.
Playing as an individual, Lane Workman finished in a tie for 72nd with a scorecard of 75, 75 and 77 for a three-round total of 227.
Central Oklahoma won the event by 31 shots over Southern Arkansas and Missouri Western who tied for second with match team scores of 4-over. UCO's team score of 825 followed by SAU and MWSU's 856 and Washburn's team score of 860. Harding was fifth with a team score of 863 while Winona State and Central Missouri tied for sixth with a team score of 868.
The Griffons' Jeffery Johnston was 12-under winning the tournament followed by Bennett Baldwin (-9) and Jordan Wilson (-7) both of Central Oklahoma.
 
COACHING
Former Ichabod golfer Ronnie McHenry is in his third season as the men's head coach in 2024-25 after spending two seasons as the team's volunteer assistant taking over the Washburn program in 2021. Prior to the start of the 2024-25 season, with the addition of the Ichabod women's golf program, he added the title of Director of Golf.
Entering his fourth full season, he has led the Ichabod men's squad to two NCAA Super Regional appearances and an NCAA National Championship appearances finishing 18th in 2023 and 12th in 2021.
