Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Late strike gives Ichabod soccer win over Jennies

WARRENSBURG, Mo. – The Washburn Ichabod women's soccer team used a late goal from Khloe Schuckman to earn a 1-0 victory against the Central Missouri Jennies on Friday night in Warrensburg, Mo. The Ichabods will return to the state of Kansas for a Sunday contest against the Fort Hays State Tigers on Oct. 27. Kickoff is scheduled for 2 p.m.

The first 45 minutes were a defensive struggle, although both sides had opportunities to break the game open. The Ichabods (10-2-2, 7-0-1 MIAA) took the first four shots of the contest, but only found the target once on those attempts. The Jennies (9-4-2, 6-2-1 MIAA) mounted their first offensive threat in the 20th minute, when senior goalkeeper Alli Harrington, making her first start as an Ichabod, made a save on a close-range shot attempt by Gracie Knight following a corner.

Despite being equal on the scoreboard, Washburn out-shot Central Missouri 10-3 in the first half. In a rarity, the Ichabods were held without a corner kick in the half, while conceding two corner kicks to the Jennies.

The beginning of the second half remained a stalemate, with both teams coming close to finding the opener but being unable to do so. In the later stages of the game, the Jennies controlled possession for longer periods of time and put increased pressure on the Washburn defense. The contest appeared to be headed for a scoreless draw before the Ichabods made a run downfield, with Mackinly Rohn finding Schuckman on the left side of the box for an 89th minute goal. The Jennies attempted to mount a last-minute attack, but the Ichabods were able to hold out to secure the victory.

Washburn took 19 shots on the evening, with eight coming on goal. Schuckman led the offensive production with six shot attempts, while Rohn and Lakin Rold added three attempts each. Harrington made four saves in net to earn her first clean sheet as an Ichabod. The Washburn defense has posted 12 shutouts in a row.

Central Missouri took eight shots in the contest, with four being on target. Knight and Andree Orcutt led the Jennies with two shot attempts each. Kristen Wright made seven saves in goal.

With the win, Washburn breaks a tie with Central Missouri for second place in the MIAA, remaining three points behind Missouri Western.
