TOPEKA, Kan. – The No. 20 Washburn Ichabod women's soccer team used two second-half goals from
Khloe Schuckman to earn a 2-0 win over the Northwest Missouri State Bearcats on Friday night at Yager Stadium. The Ichabods will celebrate Senior Day on Sunday, Nov. 3 with a 1 p.m. kickoff against No. 15 Missouri Western.
The first half was a defensive struggle, with the score staying at 0-0 entering halftime. The best chance for either side came in the 42
nd minute, when a shot from
Hunter McWilliams was deflected and fell to
Ana Muruzabal, whose close-range shot was saved. The Ichabods (11-3-2, 8-1-1 MIAA) took seven shots in the half, while holding the Bearcats (7-4-6, 5-3-3 MIAA) to three attempts.
The second half started much quicker than the first, with Schuckman finding her first score of the evening off a short pass from
Mackinly Rohn. The eventual game-winning goal was Schuckman's 16
th career game-winner, tying the Washburn school record.
With a narrow lead, the Washburn defense held strong, keeping the Bearcats out of scoring opportunities. Northwest Missouri was unable to record a shot attempt in the second half.
In the 83
rd minute, Schuckman put the contest away for good, receiving a long pass from
Grace Peterson and putting a shot just to the right of Bearcat goalkeeper Lily Ellis. The Ichabod defense stood firm to preserve the team's 13
th clean sheet of the season.
Washburn took 16 shots in the contest, with six coming on goal. Schuckman led the Ichabods with four attempts, while Peterson and
Aubrey Tanksley added three shots each.
Alli Harrington earned the shutout in goal, playing all 90 minutes.
Northwest Missouri took three shots in the match. Adell Gore led the Bearcats with two shot attempts, while Ellis made four saves in goal.
