EMPORIA, Kan. – The Washburn Ichabod softball team will have to wait a couple more days to end the regular season as the second game with Emporia State was halted and will be continued at a time to be announced on Monday with the Ichabods trailing 4-3 in the bottom of the sixth. Washburn dropped the opener 6-2.
In the opener, The Hornets took the 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning taking advantage of an Ichabod error. In the top of the second, the Ichabods came back to tie the score at 1-1 after a Hornets' miscue allowed
Mariah Wheeler to score when
Ellington Hogle reached on the infield error.
From that point, the Hornets added five in the fifth taking a 6-1 lead. Washburn added one in the seventh cutting the score to 6-2 when
Alexis Tanguma reached on an ESU error that scored
Hailey Neira.
Jaycee Ginter had three hits in the game and Wheeler finished with two combining for five of Washburn's seven hits.
Sadie Walker took the loss dropping to 20-7 on the season.
